The prototype of a fabric stereo that changes volume, tracks, and balance when touched accordingly has been released featuring Tangible Textural Interface, or TTI. The technology aims to make the touch screen more human, eschewing glass and plastic controls for more natural materials. These changes mark an effort to facilitate emotional familiarity between user and device that is absent from many of the ‘colder’ platforms currently available.
While much of the technology at play remains confidential, TTI designer Jo Eunhee says ”shape memory alloys and sensors” are used. Eunhee is looking to begin mass production of the prototype with similarly minded devices to follow.
