Pepsi has launched a “fat-blocking” soda in Japan. The new product, Pepsi Special, has been approved as a health conscious food item from the government and will hit stores in early 2013. Pepsi has toyed with various flavor innovations previously in Japan, like fruit versions of its classic soda, but this marks the first time the soda maker has gone the health route.
Realizing the power of design, Pepsi has created a new role, Chief Design Officer. The role of the CDO will be to create a culture of design at Pepsi and globally manage design for brands. Pepsi has a lot of catching up to do, especially against globally iconic brands like Coca Cola that have built equity in consistent design over the past 126 years. Read more.
